Shoshana grew up in a “crafter’s” home. Her mom was an inspired crafter who always had time to make clothing for her and her dolls, create unique craft projects out of yarn, thread and reusing the oddest of found objects to make something beautiful. There was always some new project to learn to keep her family busy on rainy days. As an adult, Shoshana has been using art and creativity in her 20 years of work as a Jewish chaplain serving folks facing serious illness, bereavement, life transitions and personal challenges. Nann grew up hanging out in her mother’s sewing room. Mom would sew and Nann would read or tell her stories out loud. Eventually, Nann learned how to sew an almost straight seam. This skill was tucked away, however, since really sewing was not as much fun as reading books! In 1992 when Nann’s mom passed away, she revisited the skills she learned long before and created her first quilt. The hand quilting done on this quilt was the therapy that helped her through the difficult grief period. Her mother’s memory and her love for her family are the inspirations for her craft.
OK, fast forward to 2001…August, Shoshana’s birthday month and Nann and Shoshana’s first month together. For Sho’s birthday they go out to quilt shops to pick fabric and a pattern for her to make her first quilt. And so, there it is...they have been quilting, sewing, and creating together ever since.
